My pedagogical practice focusses on the conditions through which knowledge is shaped and shared. Working across artistic and academic contexts, I develop transversal formats for exchange across disciplinary, institutional, and cultural boundaries. These invite participants to examine how they study, what informs their practice, and what remains difficult to articulate or share.
These concerns emerge from choreography and cross-disciplinary collaboration, where working together involves negotiating different habits of attention, methods, and expectations. I ask how divergent ways of knowing can meet without being flattened by demands for immediate legibility or translation, and how movement, listening, and collective experimentation can open possibilities for learning.
As Lead for the Centre for Pedagogy Futures at Falmouth University, I facilitate a Research Development Programme that supports collective inquiry and exchange among researchers across the University. Through the projects and platforms below, as well as teaching, mentoring, and doctoral supervision, I explore these questions with artists, researchers, and students. Open calls and public events extend opportunities to participate.

Pedagogical Practices & Platforms
Provocations Project
The Provocations Project is a platform for critical exchange on cross-disciplinary and collaborative practice. Co-founded with John MacCallum in 2018 and co-directed with MacCallum and Jessica Rajko since 2019, it brings written provocations into collective discussion through open calls, workshops, and public events. Our recent Practices of Study call invited participants to examine how they study the world, and what enables and constrains their practices, through workshops and a curated video conversation series.
Transversal Imaginaries
Transversal Imaginaries is a platform for rethinking how research and teaching happen across disciplinary, institutional, and cultural boundaries. Affiliated with the Centre for Blended Realities and the Centre for Pedagogy Futures at Falmouth University, it draws on Guattariโs idea of transversality to explore how different practices and ways of knowing can enter into relation. Activities include Movement Philosophy: Rethinking Motion and Meaning, an online reading group bringing together participants from within and beyond the University.
Interstitial Listening
Developed with John MacCallum, Interstitial Listening is a somatic practice and transdisciplinary workshop centred on a simple but impossible task: to synchronise movement, sound, or breath with an unpredictable metronome. Through guided experiments, participants attend to the rhythmic textures that emerge in the attempt, exploring habits of listening, anticipation, and relation. The practice has been shared through workshops with dancers, musicians, and participants across disciplines.
CPF Research Development Programme
As Lead for the Centre for Pedagogy Futures (CPF), I facilitate Falmouth Universityโs Research Development Programme, including writing intensives, research round robins, Seed Sessions, and a transversal reading group. These formats offer opportunities to develop research, share work in progress, and exchange approaches across disciplines. I also lead training sessions for postgraduate researchers and staff on practice research, critical pedagogy, and AI ethics.
Teaching and Mentoring
My university teaching has included choreography, contemporary dance, dance and integrated technologies, and performance philosophy, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Alongside taught courses, I have supported student projects and dissertations, mentored artists in residence, and facilitated workshops for professional practitioners. Across these contexts, I work with participants to develop their practices and articulate the questions and methods that inform them.
Doctoral Supervision
I supervise doctoral researchers at Falmouth University and welcome enquiries connecting choreography, technology, philosophy, and pedagogy. My interests include movement and representation, synthetic media and embodiment, biosensing and mediated performance, and the conditions of collective inquiry. If you would like to discuss a doctoral proposal, please email me directly at: teoma.naccarato@falmouth.ac.uk
